Rock Falls 16-year-old dies in single-vehicle crash Saturday night near Sterling, sheriff says

A 16-year-old Rock Falls girl was killed Halloween night in a single-vehicle crash on a rural road outside Sterling, Whiteside County Sheriff John F. Booker told Shaw Local on Tuesday.“It was a fatality,” Booker said, explaining that the girl died while she was being transported to a hospital. Booker did not release her name.The crash occurred Saturday night at Polo and Holly roads in Sterling Township, Sterling Police Chief Pat Bartel told Shaw Local. Bartel said that it happened outside the police department’s jurisdiction, but officers assisted the county sheriff’s office at the scene. Booker said deputies investigated to determine the cause of the crash, but did not disclose what it was and said it would be explained in an upcoming news release.
